Slacking

Ok, I have been slacking on the updating. I will be better once I get back to the US on Wednesday night. Abel and I have been hanging out most days outside of work. Over the weekend we drove to Oulanka National Park which is on the border of Russia. We did some hiking there and made a sweet fire:

finnish it off

Current music: Bloc Party - Like Eating Glass

Well, it has come to the end of the week. Abel arrived on Monday night and then Tuesday and Wednesday we went out for dinner. Other than that the week has been pretty boring. Last night I bought the old Mew album (Frengers). I figured since I am here and I can get it easily I might as well.

Tonight I think I am going to go over to the house Abel is staying in for dinner. Anyway, must do a lot of work before leaving Finland, more than I have time for...

back at work for the week

Current music: LCD Soundsystem - Never As Tired As When I'm Waking Up

Well, I think Abel should be here today sometime. It will be cool to see that crazy guy. The weekend was most unexciting. On Saturday I did some shopping and wandering around town. On Sunday I did some wandering around town, but since all the stores were closed it was rather lame. Managed to find a cool cafe and hung out there for a little while.

I guess work is not going to extend my contract. However, the guys in the US are desiring to hire me either as a developer or a sales engineer. Not sure about the sales engineer position. I am waiting to see a job description, but might be kinda cool and a different change.

done and done... play time

Current music: Mew - Apocalypso

Finally, my work here in Finland is done on one project, well, as far as I know. Tomorrow we are going to go to Nokia to play on their test equipment and see if my software works in the real world on real E1 links. Fun times...

more music

Current music: The White Stripes - Take, Take, Take

A few days ago I was walking the streets of Oulu and saw a poster in the window of a CD store that stated Mew has a new album. Whoa, how sweet is that? I first heard of Mew from Holly when she made me a mix CD with their song Snow Brigade and I loved it. Last night I went back to that very CD store and purchased a copy of the new one and immediately went back to my hotel to listen to it. Once again, this Danish band has done it.

I also finally took the plunge and listened to the new album from The White Stripes. Also very good, although different from their older stuff. Much more Led Zeppelin-ish and more produced.

eh... finland is boring

Current music: Intro5pect - Questions

Damn, the weather in this place sucks. Today is the first day it is not cloudy. It is worse than New Zealand in the winter... Colder and cloudier. Wow, I am a complainer.

I have basically been doing nothing. In the evenings I have been walking around the city and doing some shopping, but not actually buying anything. Ugh... 14 more days here.

Here is a picture of the sunrise this morning from my hotel room. It is the first time I have seen the sun since I arrived:

new DCFC

Current music: Death Cab for Cutie - Marching Bands

When I first heard the new Death Cab for Cutie I wasn't sure what to make of it. The music was so happy and the lyrics so dark. The more I listen to it (and trust me, it has been a lot) the more I grow to love it. I am now starting to think it might be their best album yet. Screw all the people who say they have sold out.

Ahhh... Scandinavian girls (part 2)

Current music: Kings of Convenience - Misread

So, kinda weird. Last time I was here in Finland I had a great girl. Now I don't... She made it pretty obvious where she stands, and I probably won't see her again. Eh, there are so many beautiful girls in this city. My mission for the next few weeks will be to score a hotter one!
